[Muslim]

Before you is an article written by Shaykh Badr al-Badr al-'Anazi(hafidhahullah), which briefly outlines ten etiquettes that the Muslim should adorn himself with on Yawmul Jumu'ah. This article was translated by our noble brother Abu Afnaan Muhammad 'Abdullah (hafidhahullah), who has explicit written permission from the Shaykh to translate his articles click here to read.

An excerpt taken from the article ~

2. Wearing the best clothing

It was narrated by al-Bukhaaree from ‘Umar that he saw an expensive garment at the masjid and said: “O Messenger of Allah, (what) if I bought this for (you) for Jumu'ah and for delegations.”

Also, Ibn Khuzaymah narrated in his Saheeh: The Chapter of it Being Recommended for the Individual to Have Clothes for Jumu’ah Other Than Those for Work.

He narrated with his chain of narration from ‘Aa`ishah that the Prophet said: “There is no blame upon anyone of you if he found the means, to buy two thawbs (garments) for his Jumu’ah other than his two garments for work.”

Questioner: Is it permissible to consume medication that contains ethyl alcohol in it?

Shaykh Muhammad Baazmool (حفظهالله): I say, it behoves us to begin by making note of a number of matters:

The first is that what is forbidden (i.e. in the legislation) is alcohol due to its intoxicating effects.

Secondly, it is incorrect to state that liquor was made impermissible because it contains alcohol. Rather, the reason for the prohibition of liquor is its intoxicating effect. Based on this, it is understood that the presence of alcohol in a substance or in a drink does not necessitate that it is deemed liquor (i.e. impermissible) unless and until it is found to be intoxicating.

The Shaykh continues to further clarify this matter in detail…

Islaamic Ruling: Wearing A Shamaagh (Red Arab Head Dress) or Any of The Dress of The Muslims In The West is Not Libaas ash-Shuhrah (Clothing That Stands Out) by Shaykh ‘Abdul’Azeez al-Bura’ee

Questioner: The Shaykh was asked another question regarding an individual asking about the hadeeth of the Messenger indicating the impermissibility of libaas ash-shuhrah (clothing that could bring fame or lead to showing off). Is clothing that brings fame considered a major sin?  If I wear the red shimaagh as is observed being worn in Saudi and I am in a non-Muslim country in a small Muslim community consisting of 10 to 20 Muslims, so if I wear this garment it differs from my brothers and the non-Muslims around us. Will this be considered libaas ash-shuhrah?

Shaykh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez al-Bura’ee (حفظه الله): We like it for the Muslims to show their Muslim clothing when they are in the lands of the disbelievers. Wear the shimaagh, wear the turban, wear the kufi and likewise the thobe, the long shirt. These types of Islaamic clothing should be worn. For surely, if he is seen wearing such he will immediately be recognised as a Muslim -this is something that we like.

Questioner: What exactly is Istihaalah (the changing of the nature of a substance) that the Fuqahaa (the scholars of jurisprudence) speak about? And what is it that this matter has in terms of relation to consuming foods that have for example a porcine derived gelatin in them?

Shaykh Muhammad Bazmool (hafidhahullah): All praise is for Allah and may the exhalations of Allah and His Greetings be upon the Messenger . To proceed:

The scholars differ regarding those things that a najaasah (a filthy substance) would become pure due to. As for the scholars of the Hanafiyyah and this is the opinion that was chosen by Shaykh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah(rahimahullahu ta’aala) is that they opine that changing of nature i.e. a substance changing from one nature to another nature is actually purifying such that something will change from being najaasah (filthy) to being taahir (pure).
